Using Food Storage

How to use powdered dessert topping

Powdered Dessert ToppingPowdered dessert topping is a dehydrated mix similar to whipped cream or cool whip.

I like to keep this in our food storage as a sweet treat. We don’t want to live without dessert in an emergency, especially a long-term one!

To use, mix:

  • 8 ounces cold water
  • 1 cup powdered dessert topping

Powdered Dessert ToppingWhisk until mix stiffens up.

We usually use ours in our “food storage fruit salad” but you can also top fruit (fresh, freeze-dried, or dehydrated) with it, or even add a spoonful onto hot chocolate.

It is a little sweeter tasting than regular whipped topping but my kids still LOVE it. They eat it straight from the bowl. My husband evens like it and he isn’t too big on sweets.

Powdered Dessert ToppingThis can also be used to make frosting. My Mother-in-law uses hers to ice gingerbread houses at Christmas.

The Spiff-E-Whip Dessert Topping we have purchased is from Augason Farms, has a shelf life of 10 years (unopened) and is priced at under $8.

Food storage doesn’t have to just be wheat, beans, and rice. Plan ahead and have dessert!
